Democratic Party Submission: Other Fundamental Rights and Directive Principles, Interpretation of Bill of Rights

Submission by the Democratic Party (DP) to Theme Committee 4 on Other Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles and Interpretation of the Bill of Rights. Directive Principles are discussed in relation to the case of India. The DP believes that Directive Principles are unnecessary, that they can ruin the coherence of the Bill of Rights and undermine its fundamental rights. The interpretation of the Bill of Rights is also discussed; section 35 is supported by the DP. It does for example indicate that legislation, the common law and customary law fall within the scope of the constitution.
