Saint Lucia's constitutional reform efforts resume

A little over a year after its first meeting, the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) has resumed its work. Speaker of the House of Assembly and chair of the CRC, Claudius Francis confirmed to St Lucia Times that the CRC met two weeks ago, but he gave no details, stating only that the process was “progressing”. [ . . . ] In February 2024, during his Independence address, Prime Minister Pierre announced that the government had revived the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reform. This committee’s mandate is to review the work of the Constitutional Reform Commission and make recommendations for a new constitution and a revised status for Saint Lucia.
