Political coalition in Gambia promises constitutional reform after public consultations

The newly formed Team Gambia Grand Coalition 2026 has promised to pursue constitutional, institutional and economic reforms, including the introduction of a presidential term limit and measures aimed at reducing extreme poverty if it assumes power. [ . . . ] He says the coalition will seek to introduce a presidential term limit and ensure that constitutional arrangements reflect the principle that sovereignty resides with the people. Sallah said the coalition would focus on leading the country through consultation rather than concentrating power in the hands of one individual. He disclosed that, if elected, the coalition would aim to deliver a new constitution within 18 months.
