Korea's national assembly speaker proposes constitutional amendment on martial law and electoral reform this session

On the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Constitution, National Assembly Speaker Cho Jung-sik proposed on the 17th, "Let's prepare a constitutional amendment to the national sovereignty in 2027 and conclude the 10th constitutional amendment within the 22nd National Assembly." [ . . . ] Chairman Cho announced his plan to immediately launch a direct constitutional amendment advisory committee to organize a roadmap and agenda for constitutional amendment, and to form a special constitutional amendment committee after party consultations. The constitutional amendment plans to reflect the full text of the May 18 Democratic Movement spirit, restrictions on the president's martial law declaration rights, reorganization of power structure, and election management reform, and collect opinions on the public participatory digital platform "Everyone's Constitution."
