Egypt: Reformers Issue Constitutional Precepts

<p>An
independent group of Egyptian academics, jurists and activists gathering under
the umbrella of the National Council, has issued a proposal for Egypt’s main
constitutional principles (<a title="National Council issues constitutional precepts " href="http://www.almasryalyoum.com/en/node/473808">Almasryalyoum</a>). According to the authors, setting
these principles is necessary to safeguard the constitution once it is protected. Islam, per the document, would remain the
main source of legislation, and the military the protector of national security
