Verbatim Report of Plenary Proceedings: Presentation of Draft Bill-Chapter nine, the Judicial and Legal System

This report documents discussions on the presentations of chapters 9 of the draft bill on the Judiciary and the Legal System. It is structured into two parts dealing with the Judiciary(I) and the Legal System and Profession(II). The presentation on the Judiciary addresses the role and functions of the latter and the values and principles which it must promote. It then looks at the structure of the court system, attached services, appointments and the oversight system put in place. The second part focuses on the legal profession and system with emphases on the roles, functions, attributions, qualifications and appointment of the Attorney General, the Director of Public Prosecutions(DPP), the Public Defender; the regulation of the the Bar and members thereof, the Law Society and other related services.
