[Original in Spanish] In Venezuela, Venezuelan ruler Nicolás Maduro is promoting the second constitutional reform proposed by Chavismo since he took power in 1999. The 2007 proposal was rejected in a referendum. On this occasion, they plan to modify at least a fifth of the fundamental text. [ . . . ] Reforming the Venezuelan Magna Carta is not a quick process. According to its legal protocols, contemplated between articles 342 and 345 of the document itself, it can take up to two years and depends on several complex steps, including a national vote.
According to Maduro, a national commission for reform is underway, made up of his wife, former representative Cilia Flores; the vice president and minister of oil Delcy Rodríguez; the president of parliament, Jorge Rodríguez; and the attorney general and former governor of Chavismo, Tarek William Saab; among other figures, such as some magistrates of the judiciary, members of his executive cabinet and deputies of the National Assembly.
