Uzbekistan's legislature approves laws aimed at strengthening constitutional guarantees for judiciary

Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan has approved, in its second reading, the draft law "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Connection with Strengthening Constitutional Guarantees for the Activities of Courts." During the discussion, it was emphasized that comprehensive reforms are being implemented in the country to protect human rights, freedoms, and legal interests, as well as to strengthen constitutional, legal, institutional, and practical guarantees. The proposed amendments concern the "Law on Courts" and the "Law on the Higher Judicial Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan," which are being aligned with the new version of the Constitution. [ . . . ] Under the amendments to the "Law on Courts," justice will be administered exclusively by courts, and judicial decisions that have entered into force will become binding not only for all government bodies, enterprises, institutions, organizations, officials, and citizens but also for civil society institutions.
