Proposal to establish national anthem day and enshrine capital city in Malta's constitution moves forward

After three days of discussion, the Parliament of Malta unanimously voted for the bill looking to establish National Anthem Day on 27 December and recognise Valletta as the capital city of Malta in the Constitution of Malta, to proceed to the Committee Stage for technical amendments. Near the end of Wednesday's plenary, both sides of the House of Representatives voted unanimously in favour of Bill 157 to advance from the Second Reading to the penultimate legislative stage. This Bill, which is fully expected to pass, will require a two-thirds majority to be enacted during its Third Reading, after the Committee Stage, since it concerns amending the Maltese Constitution.
