In Mexico, senators submit request to hold public consultation on prosecuting former presidents

Fifteen senators from Brunette, the president’s party Andrés Manuel López Obrador, formalized this Thursday their request to carry out a Public consultation to decide if former presidents of Mexico must be tried, as the president himself had proposed. [ . . . ] “The popular consultation is one of the mechanisms of direct participatory democracy that enshrines our Constitution, through which we citizens exercise our right to express our opinion regarding one or several issues of national significance, by means of a vote ”, stated the Morenoist senators[.]
