The Federal Constitution will be amended to allow for greater representation of members of parliament from Sabah and Sarawak, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said this is in line with what was promised under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“The addition of parliamentary seats is, of course, under the authority of the Election Commission (EC). This means there may also be an increase in seats in Peninsular Malaysia, as well as additional seats for Sabah and Sarawak,” he told a press conference here after attending the MA63 Implementation Action Council meeting (MTPMA63).
“However, the increase must not undermine the principle that the ratio of representation for Sabah and Sarawak should be higher than it is at present.”
