Kosovo's president proposes switch to direct election for president

Kosovo's president Vjosa Osmani said on Thursday she has proposed to parliament to approve amendments to the Constitution introducing direct election for president in an attempt to resolve a political stalemate ahead of the expiry of her term on April 4. [ . . . ] Under Kosovo's Constitution, parliament should elect a president of the country no later than 30 days before the expiry of the incumbent president’s term, choosing between at least two candidates.
