In Korea, governing political party proposes judicial reform bills

On Monday, the Democratic Party of Korea announced the first drafts of major bills for judicial and media reforms. The five major judicial reform bills include a proposal to increase the number of Supreme Court justices from 14 to 26, while the media reform bill proposes a punitive damages system that would impose up to five times the actual damages on media outlets and YouTubers spreading false information.  The party plans to bring the bills to a National Assembly vote before the end of the current legislative session, aiming to complete its reform push by the end of the year. In addition to the five major judicial reform bills, the Democratic Party also decided to pursue a bill allowing the Constitutional Court to review Supreme Court rulings by seeking to adopt it as a party platform.
