Haiti to install transition council for interim period

The establishment of the High Transition Council, fruit of the governmental agreement with political and private organizations in Haiti, is scheduled for [the week of 5 February ], an official source confirmed on [31 January]. According to a press release from the Ministry of Communication, Prime Minister Ariel Henry held a fruitful working meeting with the members of the committee to discuss issues of national interest and they decided, by common agreement, to proceed with the formal installation of the structure. The High Transition Council (HTC) has as its main objective to promote dialogue and is called to work closely with authorities on major projects during the interim period, including combating insecurity, reforming the constitution and holding elections. According to the decree that made the HTC official, they must also work on transforming justice, modifying the economy and advancing other programs such as the rule of law and social and food security. Likewise, the text indicated that the [HTC] must guarantee the credibility and integrity of the elections by participating in the selection of the members of the Provisional Electoral Council and organizing provisional evaluations with recommendations for the development of the electoral process.
