The Prime Minister’s hand-picked minister for a republic has confirmed a second referendum on an Australian head of state is part of the government’s “longer-term vision”. [...] Despite the government’s focus being firmly on the Voice to Parliament referendum due later this year, Mr Thistlethwaite said Labor had not abandoned hopes for further constitutional reform. “The government does have a longer-term vision for Australia as a mature independent nation with one of our own as our head of state, recognising a unique identity and culture as a nation,” the Assistant Minister for a Republic told Sky News Australia on [4 May].
