Algeria: Presidential vote, opposition attacks

<p><span>The Algerian opposition has joined forces ahead of presidential elections in April next year, launching an offensive undeniably targeting the new candidature of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.&nbsp;</span><span>In order for the elderly president, who has been in poor health, to run for a fourth consecutive mandate the Constitution eould have to be changed.</span></p><p><span></span><br><br><span>The political situation in Algeria is tense as, well aware that if Bouteflika were to run he would almost certainly become president given the following he still has in the country, groups and political parties opposing this possibility are overcoming differences which are not only ideological and have prevented joint action over the years, in order to work together.</span></p>
