Governance, Justice, Law and Order Sector (GJLOS) Reform Programme

Objectives

The Convenor of this thematic group is the Chair, Kenya Law Reform Commission. The key result for this thematic group is the enactment of a new constitution that would underpin the sector wide reforms envisaged by the GJLOS reform programme. For example the new constitution would provide for a more independent judicial system, unencumbered by political interference, thus enabling it to dispense justice in a more transparent manner. The programme also supports the current process that will give Kenyans a new constitution. NOTE: The support to the constitutional process is one of seven key areas, and funding priorities reflect this. Since OECD data on donor comittments is recorded on an aggregate level, to the entire sector-wide program, the actual donor funding to the constitution-making process is considerably less than indicated by the OECD figures.
