Madagascar's junta leader claims suspension of government is in accordance with constitution

Madagascar’s military ruler, Michael Randrianirina, has suspended the government, dismissing the prime minister and cabinet, authorities confirmed on Monday. Presidential communications director Harry Laurent Rahajason announced the decision on Facebook, stating that it was taken in accordance with constitutional provisions, without providing further explanation. [ . . . ] The presidency also indicated that measures had been put in place to maintain government operations while a new administration is formed. “Until a new Prime Minister and members of the Government are appointed, the Secretary General of each Ministry is responsible for day-to-day operations,” the statement said.
