A Mexican lawmaker has introduced a constitutional reform aimed at strengthening protections for minors by explicitly prohibiting hazardous, unhealthy, and night work for people under 18 years old across all sectors.
The initiative, promoted by PVEM Deputy Ricardo Madrid, proposes changes to Sections II and III of Subsection A of Article 123 of the Constitution. The reform would establish that minors may not perform work that, by its nature or by the conditions under which it is carried out, could harm their physical, mental, or social development. [ . . . ] The initiative, which has been sent to the Chamber of Deputies’ Constitutional Affairs Committee for review, reiterates that the minimum age for employment may not be lower than the age at which compulsory education is completed, as established by the Constitution and applicable laws. It also maintains the absolute prohibition on employing children under the age of 15.
