Mexico's senate considers prohibiting dual nationality for presidents and governors

The Senate of the Republic received this Sunday the Federal Executive‘s initiative to prevent people with dual nationality from aspiring to the Presidency, a governorship, or the Head of Government of Mexico City (CdMx). Laura Itzel Castillo Juárez, president of the Senate, reported that the upper chamber received the reform bill for articles 82, 116, and 122 of the Political Constitution, with which the government of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo seeks to establish a single nationality for those who hold those offices. [ . . . ] Senator Castillo Juárez added that the initiative “will be forwarded to the Chamber of Deputies for its ruling,” so it must still go through the legislative process before it can become a constitutional reform.
