Objectives

The overall objective of the project is to establish a democratic, just and equitable society by ensuring individual and collective rights of indigenous peoples in the constitution-making and state-reform process in Nepal. More specific objectives of the programme are to support meaningful consultation with and participation of indigenous organisations and communities in the constitution making process, and to support the capacity of key policy-making institutions to integrate ILO Convention 169 in the state reform process. The project is supporting dialogue between the Constituent Assembly members and indigenous women and men, their organizations and experts. The aim is to ensure the inclusion of indigenous peoples' rights in the new constitution. The project also supports the Ministry of Local Development which is the main government agency for providing training and capacity building on Convention No. 169 to government officials at different levels
