Annual Review of Constitution Building: 2024

International IDEA's Annual Review of Constitution-Building 2024 provides a comprehensive look at global constitutional shifts, the forces driving them, and their impact on both domestic and international affairs. The Review covers a wide range of topics related to the process and substance of constitutions, from broad themes such as democratic backsliding to more specific issues like the constitutional place of the prosecution service.

When International IDEA first published the first Annual Review of Constitution-Building in 2013, democratic reform was high on the global agenda. A decade later, the picture has changed dramatically. As many of this year’s chapters highlight, constitutional debates and reforms in numerous countries reflect troubling trends for democracy and the rule of law. Yet the Review also reminds us that, even in a challenging global landscape, there are silver linings—efforts that offer hope and deserve recognition and support.
