Samoa's parliament passes constitutional amendment unifying court structure

Parliament on Wednesday morning passed the Constitutional amendment to unify the court structure in a controversial calculation of two third majority in the House. There is now a likelihood that the question on what is two-thirds of the parliament may head to court. A two-thirds majority of 53 MPs interpreted by the Speaker Papalii Lio Masipau was 35.33 and when rounded off, it was calculated to be 35.  The House voted and 36 MPs voted to approve the Constitution Amendment while 16 that opposed it.  Speaker Papalii who exercised his voting right said intepretation from the Attorney General allowed him to exercise his vote on constitutional amendment as he represents his constituency.
