Taiwan's premier cautions against raising threshold for constitutional court rulings

Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) on Thursday urged opposition party lawmakers to vote down newly passed measures raising the threshold for Constitutional Court rulings, describing the legislative amendments as "the most severe disruption" to Taiwan's constitutional order. At a Cabinet news conference, Cho called on lawmakers from the main opposition Kuomintang (KMT) and the smaller Taiwan People's Party (TPP) to "think over" the revisions they pushed through last December and to not "stand on the wrong side of history" by voting in favor of them once again. The premier said the amendments constitute "the severest disruption to the nations's constitutional system."
