Zambia's ConCourt: Prisoners should be allowed to vote

Zambia's Constitutional Court ruled that prisoners should be allowed to vote. Petitioners argued that the continued denial of the right to vote for persons awaiting trial whilst in custody was contrary to the presumption of innocence to which they were entitled under Article 18 (2) (a) of the Constitution and that it was discriminatory. The Court agreed and declared that the persons in lawful custody and those whose freedom of movement is restricted under a written law are entitled to vote in future elections.
