Nigerian parliamentary ad hoc committee on constitutional review to hold retreat with stakeholders
7 December 2016
The House of Representatives Special Ad hoc Committee on Constitution Review planned to host a three-day retreat on the amendment of the 1999 Constitution as from Thursday.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, Mr Wole Oladimeji, said that the retreat would hold in Abuja and close on Saturday, Dec. 10. Oladimeji explained that the retreat was to interface with various stakeholders with the aim of collating their views on the amendment. According to him, the fourth Constitution Alteration Bill will be presented to the public during the retreat to get their inputs.
The Chairman of the Ad hoc Committee on the review of the 1999 constitution Deputy Speaker, Mr Yussuff Lasun, assured Nigerians that the report of the exercise would be signed by the President. This, he said, was unlike previous exercises because it would be in piecemeal, instead previous ones which were in a single Bill.
“This time around, we have adopted a system whereby we will present the Bill for assent batch by batch instead of the whole exercise.”
