IDEA: The Role of Constitution-Building Processes in Democratization - Case Study Fiji
The study provides an important context to the constitution review processes in Fiji and the significant cleavages that have informed the process and proposed constitutional arrangements. The study also discusses the reasons behind the violent rejection of the constitution by a section of the Fijian elite and whether the manner of the enactment of the constitution was in some sense responsible for this fate. It also explores the role constitutions and constitutional negotiations play in the resolution of ethnic conflicts.
