President of Tanzania: John Pombe Magufuli
<p>The East African
Community election observation mission has requested President John Pombe
Magufuli to restart the constitution review process and enforce the enactment
of relevant reforms in the country’s election management process. In its
report on last year’s general election in Tanzania, the mission led by former
Kenyan vice president Moody Awori said such reforms should include the
establishment of an independent election management body with its own staff
from national to sub-national levels. They noted that last October’s
election was somewhat hampered by an inconclusive constitution review process,
as exemplified by a national referendum which failed to take place in April as
planned. </p>
