Japan: POLL: 84% of newly elected lawmakers favor constitutional revision

<p>More than 80 percent of the newly elected Lower House members support amending the pacifist Constitution, according to a recent Asahi Shimbun poll.&nbsp;<span style="line-height: 20.3999996185303px;">Conducted jointly with a University of Tokyo research team led by Masaki Taniguchi, professor of political science, the survey compiled the results of responses given by the successful candidates of the Dec. 14 Lower House election.</span></p><p>Fifty-nine percent said they fully support amending the Constitution, while 25 percent said they somewhat support revising the Constitution.&nbsp;</p><p><span style="line-height: 20.3999996185303px;">Seven percent said they were opposed to amending the Constitution and 3 percent were somewhat opposed.&nbsp;</span></p>
