<div class="white-border-caption"><p><span class="text-caption">Last week Germany‘s Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe ruled that a member of a civil partnership must have the right to adopt not only a partner‘s biological child but also an adopted child.</span></p></div><div class="diff-text-block"><p id="p_10">The judgement gave gay and lesbian people in civil partnerships more freedom to become adoptive parents by allowing a practice known as "successive adoption“. At the same time it accelerates discussions on the modern meaning of matrimony and the suitability of the current constitution. </p>
