Egypt: Reformers Issue Constitutional Precepts

<p>An independent group of Egyptian academics, jurists and activists gathering under the umbrella of the National Council, has issued a proposal for Egypt’s main constitutional principles (<a title="National Council issues constitutional precepts " href="http://www.almasryalyoum.com/en/node/473808">Almasryalyoum</a>). According to the authors, setting these principles is necessary to safeguard the constitution once it is protected.&nbsp; Islam, per the document, would remain the main source of legislation, and the military the protector of national security and the civil state.
