Voters approve new constitution in Morocco

<p>Results from the constitutional referendum held on Friday 1 July indicate that over 98%, of the nearly 78% of Moroccans who turned out for the vote have approved the proposed constitutional reforms ushered in by King Mohammed VI in the wake of the Arab Spring. The vote, described by the <a title="Moroccan king scores landslide win in reform vote" href="http://uk.reuters.com/article/2011/07/01/uk-morocco-reform-idUKTRE7603YE20110701">Reuters</a> as a "landslide win", paves the way for a new political system that strips the King of his power to appoint the Prime Minister, grants greater freedoms and establishes a comaparatively more independent judiciary.
