Sri Lanka: UNP plans Constituent Assembly to pass entirely new Constitution

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>After the passage of the 19th Amendment and the dissolution of Parliament, the United National Party (UNP) will contest the next General Election seeking a mandate to set up a Constituent Assembly with the aim of drafting an entirely new Constitution, Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said.&nbsp;<span style="line-height: 20.3999996185303px;">Speaking at a press conference on Friday (April 10), the minister further said the process of establishing the Constituent Assembly and drafting a new Constitution is likely to take one to two years.&nbsp;</span></p>
