The Union Parliament’s Charter Amendment Committee—tasked with making the military-drafted Constitution democratic—has put forward more than 3,700 recommendations for various changes to provisions of the Constitution, suggesting amendments, additions and/or repeals.
In protest of the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) party and other parties’ efforts to amend the Constitution, the military has rejected the committee’s recommendations.
