In Hungary, ruling party proposes constitutional amendment to hold municipal elections on same day as European parliamentary elections

Máté Kocsis, group leader of the ruling Fidesz party, submitted the 11th amendment proposal to Hungary’s Fundamental Law to parliament on Tuesday. Under the amendment, the municipal elections would be held on the same day as the European parliamentary elections. [...] In the proposal’s justification, Kovács noted that holding this year’s general election and child protection referendum on the same day saved the budget more than 10 billion forints (EUR 25.1m). [...] The motion will require a two-thirds majority to pass.
