How Namibia’s new Constitutional changes are failing the promise of freedom

<p>The Namibian Constitution Third Amendment Bill (“the amendment bill”) which was tabled in parliament has triggered an outcry from representatives of civil society, mainly about lack of consultation.&nbsp;<span style="font-size: 1em; line-height: 1.5em;">The intention of this article is different. Its purpose is to appeal to the members of parliament, when deliberating the amendments to the Constitution, to consider whether the promise they gave to the nation on the eve of the country’s independence more than 24 years ago will be fulfilled or at the very least brought closer to fulfilment, through the constitutional amendments. </span></p>
